Google Music Has Unleashed New Feature: Music Artist Hub And Fan Application

Google is unleashing a new tool for the independent artist. Introducing the Google Music Artist Hub. This feature from Google is being marketed as an alternative to a major label. Indie artists seldom realize that when they launch their careers they are literally launching a business. The amount of resources that it takes to be competitive in the music business is often overwhelming for the artist. Google Music can give an artist the edge to be competitive without the expense because of their massive search engine.

Any groups that have already licensed their music to be sold at other outlets may appreciate the Google Music on time set up fee. Google Music has a one-time $25 setup fee and unlimited album upload feature for each artist page and keeps a 30% commission on your sales. There are no other fees — not for uploading tracks, creating albums, making changes to existing albums, editing your artist page, or anything else within the artist hub. You have the power to select and change what you sell, including new demos, live recordings and unreleased tracks.

When you get to the Artist Hub the first page warns you: If you already work with a record label or distributor, this isn’t the route for you. Check with them to see if your music is already being distributed through Google Music.

You can check out the get started page at http://music.google.com/artists

Most independent artists are also the biggest fans. So before creating your own artist page you might want to check the Google Music service itself. One of the features is the ablity to listen to an artist’s entire album before purchasing it (if enabled). Here’s the promo vid for it:

Anything that you do should be well thought out. Take the time to investigate it for yourself: http://music.google.com

The major new announcement for Google Music is the launch of a new Google Music Store on the Android Market, and the store offers over 13 million tracks from a wide range of artists, and music labels which include Universal Music Group, Sony Music and EMI, plus around another 1,000 independent labels.

You, Mom or Dad, are usually your child’s first band manager. Often unaware of the work involved, you plugs along anyway! This new feature might help (but you might need your teenager to explain it to you!)
