“This BET cypher could have skyrocketed my career,”
“I was avoided for months and given a response after the cypher was pre-filmed,” -Charron to HipHopDX
Canadian Battle Rapper Corey Charron [best known for his freestyle ability showcased during KOTD battles] is calling out Black Entertainment Television for breach of contract by cancelling his appearance on BET’s “The Cypher”.
Corey Charron was featured on BET’s 106 & Park Freestyle Friday battle tournament earlier this year. During the tournament he defeated all of his competition to win $5,000 and an opportunity to appear on BET’s “The Cypher”. “The Cypher” is scheduled to air during the 2013 Hip Hop Awards; however, Charron was reportedly told that he was cut from the casting only after filming for “The Cypher” had already been completed.
Many folks in the battle rap community are speculating that Charron may have been excluded because of his appearance and/or nationality citing that Charron doesn’t look the part of a traditional rapper. Charron recently took his frustrations to Twitter where the story gained traction. Charron’s BET story has gained the attention of several communities in the blogosphere including HiphopDx and VLADTV.
