Senator Marco Rubio vs.
Sean Carter Jay-Z
Good morning!! So, it seems there are no signs that media coverage and political banter over Jay-Z’s trip to Cuba is going away soon. In fact it is still heating up if the bloggers have their way.
SUBZINFO posted some reactions to Jay-Z’s new song “Open Letter” which debuted recently. In the song Jay-Z used a few politically charged lines. The internets had a range of mixed reactions to the song. In it Jay-Z suggests admiration for Ernesto “Che” Guevara and chastises politicians for distorting history.
I done turned Havana to Atlanta
Guayabera shirts and bandanas
Politicians never did s**t for me
Except lie to me, distort history
U.S. Senator Thinks Jay-Z Should ‘get informed’
Well, Dylan Stableford from Yahoo News posted an article entitled Rubio: ‘I think Jay-Z needs to get informed’. In it the author alleges that U.S. Senator Marco Rubio has labeled Che’ Guevara as a racist. The article cites an interview from This Week with George Stephanopoulos as a source. The article reads:
“First of all, I think Jay-Z needs to get informed,” Rubio said on “This Week with George Stephanopoulos” on Sunday. “One of his heroes is Che Guevara. Che Guevara was a racist. Che Guevara was a racist that wrote extensively about the superiority of white Europeans over people of African descent, so he should inform himself on the guy that he’s propping up.”
[Update: I Found the Rubio Interview] This Week with Marco Rubio on immigration, background checks and Jay-Z
It appears that the host couldn’t resist bringing up Jay-Z even though the interview was largely about immigration reform and gun control. You can find the entire transcript from the interview here. That being said:
Was Che Guevara actually a racist?
So Guevara wrote extensively about the inferiority of Afrikan people eh? This being the first that I had heard of such an accusation I quickly turned to the good ole Google search. I came upon this article here: Che’ Guevara a Racist? A Glimpse Into His Diary. It was a good read. I’d recommend it to anyone. Did Jay-Z call it right when he accused politcians of distorting history?
I get this feeling that I’m not quite done writing about this but fuhr now I’m off to do some reading on this rapper named Angel Yunier Remon that Rubio mentioned. Happy Monday!!
