The Feds Are Pushing To Expand Surveillance Rights

Gmail LogoSome odd but troubling news comes via Slate. It seems that one of the FBI’s top priorities in 2013 will monitoring communication between Gmail accounts in real time. No, I’m not kidding. Sigh, yeah I know this sounds far fetched. It didn’t seem right to me either but then I went ahead and read the article. Seems to have some credibility. Here is an excerpt:

Weissmann said that the FBI wants the power to mandate real-time surveillance of everything from Dropbox and online games (“the chat feature in Scrabble”) to Gmail and Google Voice. “Those communications are being used for criminal conversations,” he said.
