Remembering Keith “Guru” Elam From Gangstarr [Rest In Peace]


Legendary emcee Keith “Guru” Elam aka Guru passed away Monday April 19,2010. It has been 2 years since his death. He was 48 years old. He leaves behind a large musical legacy begining with his group Gang Starr and spanning until his solo career (with the Jazzmatazz albums).

Keith Elam was born July 17, 1961 in Roxbury, Massachusetts. In 1987 G.U.R.U. along with DJ Premier formed the group Gang Starr. The name Guru is a backronym that stands for Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal.

Guru’s music touched many people. In 2011 a limited edition sneaker was created in honor of his memory. 2 years after his death his music is still celebrated.
